Youtube video Daily Politics Show

Here is the youtube video of the piece that the Daily Politics show did on the Manchester Withington seat and which was broadcast on BBC2 on Tuesday 23rd March.

I was interviewed outside The Ewing School that is to be closed by the Labour-run Council and has been a real dividing line between the Lib Dems and Labour in the run up to the General Election. After the interview they filmed the campaign team in West Didsbury, where we were out delivering our latest newspaper.

I was asked about the key issues in the coming election and what I think will make the difference to voters. This is something I get asked a lot and I believe the next election will be a choice between who will stand up for south Manchester and protect our services and who won’t.

I have always stood up for south Manchester over the last five years. At the last election we stood up for The Christie when there was a real threat that services would be moved away from the hospital. More recently I was at the heart of the campaign to get The Christie’s charity money back that was lost during the Icelandic banking collapse. I and my Lib Dem colleagues stood side by side with parents and children from Ewing School, right from the beginning, when the school was threatened with closure. We fought tooth and nail to bring Metrolink to south Manchester, after it was cancelled by the Labour Government and only the Lib Dems fought to save Burnage Walk-In Centre. It was also the Lib Dems who fought off Labour’s plans to sell off part of Marie Louise Gardens. During these tough economic times, south Manchester needs an MP who will fight to protect local services, not simply stand by while cuts are being made.

People feel let down by Labour’s cuts and their hypocrisy of  talking about protecting local services when they are shutting them down!
