£5million Bus boost for Manchester

My Lib Dem colleague and Transport Minister Norman Baker has made a statement this morning on bids to improve the bus network across the country. The great news is that Greater Manchester will be a £5million boost to its bus network, the same amount as Greater London.

A grant of £3.16m will be given to Stagecoach Manchester, a grant of £1.01m to Transport for Greater Manchester, and a grant of £569,000 to Arriva. This will fund 10 separate bus projects across Greater Manchester, funding 62 buses.

Following welcome comments from as diverse a couple as Sir Howard Bernstein and the MEN’s David Ottewell that the budget was good for Manchester, here is further proof that the lobbying being done is working.

This money will improve journey times and reliability; improve bus infrastructure at key locations and support growth across Greater Manchester.
